The wire
- 01Researchers emulated a target trial in TriNetX data covering 33,161 diabetic liver transplant recipients from 2015 to 2024, matching 564 pairs of new GLP-1 and SGLT2 inhibitor users.
- 02GLP-1 use was linked to lower ischemic heart disease (HR 0.721), heart failure (HR 0.502) and death, with no difference in infection or graft rejection, a common concern in transplant prescribing.
- 03The design is observational and cannot establish causality; the cirrhosis signal (HR 0.787) was borderline and inconsistent across propensity score models.
