The wire
- 01In Nature Communications, researchers matched 14,118 pairs of adults with atrial fibrillation and type 2 diabetes starting tirzepatide or another GLP-1 receptor agonist; stroke risk differed by 2.1 percentage points at one year.
- 02Lower risks were reported for any stroke, ischemic stroke, hemorrhagic stroke and death, a signal clinicians may weigh when selecting incretin therapy for anticoagulated patients with diabetes.
- 03The authors state the findings are observational and that randomized trials are required before treatment recommendations change; residual confounding in electronic health-record cohorts remains a limitation.
