The wire

  1. 01Male Wistar rats with metabolic syndrome received saline, liraglutide or semaglutide for six weeks; both drugs improved post-ischemic myocardial contractility and relaxation in a Langendorff ex vivo ischemia/reperfusion model.
  2. 02Treated animals showed lower superoxide anion levels, enhanced antioxidant defence, and reduced myocardial hypertrophy and collagen deposition, plus improved hepatic and pancreatic histology.
  3. 03This is an animal model with semaglutide showing the stronger body-weight effect; the authors frame the cardioprotection as potential, and no human endpoints were tested.
