  1. 01Eli Lilly said a weekly 12 mg injection of retatrutide over 80 weeks produced average weight loss of 28.3 percent, roughly 70 pounds, from a baseline of 248.5 pounds.
  2. 02Participants were classified as overweight or having obesity; Toronto's Daniel Drucker, a former Lilly consultant, said the result puts retatrutide on a par with bariatric surgery.
  3. 03Side effects included nausea or diarrhea in about a third of participants, constipation in about a quarter, and vomiting in 10 to 25 percent depending on dose; results come from a company statement ahead of FDA review.
