SURMOUNT-J analysis links tirzepatide weight loss to visceral fat reduction
In 225 Japanese adults with obesity and no diabetes, 10 mg and 15 mg doses roughly doubled high molecular weight adiponectin and cut leptin by about 60% at week 72.

The wire
- 01Prespecified and post hoc analyses of SURMOUNT-J (placebo n=75, tirzepatide 10 mg n=73, 15 mg n=77) showed weight loss correlated strongly with visceral adipose tissue reduction (r=0.722-0.837) at week 72.
- 02Tirzepatide also reduced high-sensitivity C-reactive protein, procollagen III and cytokeratin-18, and lowered glucose, insulin and C-peptide AUC on a 75-g oral glucose tolerance test.
- 03Authors say waist measures can serve as surrogates for visceral adiposity in this population; the correlation analyses were post hoc and limited to Japanese participants without diabetes.
