Danish registry finds lower GLP-1 uptake among unemployed, retired diabetes patients

1. 01In Danish registry data from 2015 to 2022 covering 81,361 people with concomitant type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease, initiation rate ratios were 0.77 for unemployed men and 0.81 for unemployed women versus employed peers.
2. 02Educational gradients disappeared after adjustment, but occupational and marital status remained associated with non-initiation of GLP-1 receptor agonists and SGLT2 inhibitors, pointing prescribers toward specific under-treated groups.
3. 03Observational registry analysis cannot establish cause, pools GLP-1s with SGLT2 inhibitors in parts of the analysis, and reflects Danish coverage rules that may not transfer elsewhere.
