The wire

  1. 01Nineteen RCTs from 2016 to 2025 covering 38,160 type 2 diabetes patients gave an odds ratio of 1.19 (95% CI 1.07-1.32) for overall neoplasms and 1.28 (1.02-1.61) for benign neoplasms with subcutaneous or oral semaglutide.
  2. 02The authors urge clinical awareness of potential neoplastic risk in patients on long-term semaglutide for glycemic control.
  3. 03Trial durations ran 26 to 156 weeks, too short to settle oncologic questions; the malignant-neoplasm signal did not reach significance and longer RCTs are called for.
