S14G-humanin cuts oxidative stress in rat kidney ischaemia-reperfusion model
A 2 mg/kg intravenous dose given 10 minutes before reperfusion raised ATP and complex I activity but did not lower blood urea nitrogen or serum creatinine.

- 01In 48 Sprague-Dawley rats undergoing 45 minutes of renal artery ligation and 24 hours of reperfusion, S14G-humanin 2 mg/kg i.v. restored glutathione and superoxide dismutase, cut myeloperoxidase and malondialdehyde, and reduced apoptotic cells.
- 02Humanin analogues are tracked by readers following mitochondrial and longevity peptides; this adds a mechanistic signal via STAT3 and ERK1/2 phosphorylation.
- 03Functional renal markers, blood urea nitrogen and serum creatinine, were unchanged by treatment, and the work is a single acute rat model with no human data.
