The wire
- 01In a phase 2b randomized, double-blind trial (NCT04019197), 108 people with HIV-associated lipohypertrophy took semaglutide or placebo for 32 weeks, then were followed off drug to week 56; 80 completed that phase.
- 02Former semaglutide recipients regained weight, BMI, waist circumference, total body fat and visceral adipose tissue with worsening glycemic indices, though net reductions versus baseline persisted at week 56.
- 03Authors conclude sustained pharmacologic exposure is likely needed for long-term benefit; the post-treatment phase was observational and attrition reduced the analyzed sample.
