Narrative review ties GLP-1 weight loss to 25-30% lean mass depletion
Authors say direct aesthetic surgery outcome data are limited to two case reports and one small cohort, so surgical implications remain inferential.

The wire
- 01A narrative review in Aesthetic Surgery Journal Open Forum searched PubMed, Embase and Web of Science to March 2026 and found lean soft tissue loss comprising about 25% to 30% of total weight lost across GLP-1 receptor agonist trials.
- 02Authors argue surgeons should assess body composition rather than weight before facelift, abdominoplasty or fat grafting, flagging patients with rapid loss, low protein intake and no resistance training.
- 03Evidence is Level 5; the review does not support changing surgical technique for GLP-1 patients as a class, and cessation timing before fat grafting remains unstudied.
