Retatrutide lowers renal HIF-1a in diabetic rats without histology benefit
In a streptozotocin rat model, 21 days of subcutaneous retatrutide cut HIF-1a expression versus untreated diabetics but left kidney damage scores statistically unchanged.

The wire
- 01Male Sprague-Dawley rats in four groups received subcutaneous retatrutide for 21 days; HIF-1a was significantly lower in treated diabetic animals (p=0.020), while TNF-a and histopathology scores showed no confirmed differences.
- 02Damage scores trended lower with treatment (Cliff's delta 0.90 cortex, 0.85 medulla) but did not survive family-wise error correction; the authors report no sign of intrinsic renal toxicity.
- 03The acute streptozotocin model reflects insulin-deficient rather than type 2 diabetes, and the authors call for chronic models, longer dosing and refined regimens before any renoprotection claim.
