The wire
- 01In diet-induced obese mice, butyrate significantly amplified semaglutide's body-weight reduction and increased c-Fos-positive cells in the hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus beyond semaglutide alone.
- 02Dietary restriction decreased PVN c-Fos counts and produced plasma metabolomic profiles with limited overlap with drug treatment, suggesting pharmacologic and caloric weight loss act through different routes.
- 03Findings are in mice only, with no dose-ranging in humans and no data on whether oral butyrate formulations would reproduce the effect clinically.
