The wire

  1. 01Researchers built 15 by 15 arrays of poly(vinyl alcohol) dissolving microneedles that penetrated rat skin, partly dissolved within five minutes and released over 90% of labelled cargo in 30 minutes.
  2. 02Once-daily patches for seven days in high-fat-diet obese rats reduced food intake, body weight, adipocyte size and hepatic lipid, and improved glucose tolerance.
  3. 03This is an early rat feasibility study with microgram-level dosing far below human therapeutic exposure; no human pharmacokinetic or tolerability data exist.
