The wire
- 01In this exploratory SURPASS-CVOT analysis, 20.3% of patients with type 2 diabetes and atherosclerotic disease had prior heart failure; tirzepatide up to 15 mg weekly gave a hazard ratio of 0.83 (95% CI 0.70-0.99) for all-cause death or heart failure hospitalization versus dulaglutide 1.5 mg.
- 02MACE-4 hazard ratio was 0.81 (95% CI 0.69-0.95) in the heart failure group and 0.91 (0.83-1.00) without, with APPADL and EQ-5D-5L patient-reported scores higher on tirzepatide in both groups.
- 03The authors call this exploratory within a trial designed for non-inferiority, so the heart failure subgroup findings are hypothesis-generating rather than confirmatory.
