GLP-1glp-1 receptor agonistsgastroparesisadverse eventsreal-world data

Only a third of the symptomatic patients referred for gastric emptying scintigraphy actually showed delayed emptying.

The wire

  1. 01In a retrospective cohort of 78,277 patients published in Neurogastroenterology and Motility, 53% reported at least one GI symptom event by 60 months, most often abdominal pain (28%) and nausea (25%).
  2. 02Baseline diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain or nausea raised risk (HRs 2.2, 2.0, 1.7, 1.6), as did concomitant metoclopramide (HR 1.6); women were at higher risk than men.
  3. 03Prediction was modest (C-index 0.64 training, 0.63 testing), and the gastric emptying subgroup was only 696 symptom-selected referrals, so the 34.6% delayed-emptying rate is not generalizable.
