Among 282 patients, prior bariatric surgery showed no increased complication risk, while GLP-1 receptor agonist use did despite standardised preoperative optimisation.

The wire
- 01In a retrospective single-centre study of 282 adults operated on at Aalborg University Hospital between December 2022 and December 2025, preoperative GLP-1 receptor agonist exposure was associated with postoperative infection (OR 3.72, 95% CI 1.52-9.07) versus lifestyle weight loss.
- 02Wound dehiscence requiring intervention under general anaesthesia was also more likely (OR 16.71, 95% CI 1.99-139.88), a signal surgeons and prescribers may weigh when planning post-weight-loss procedures.
- 03The study is retrospective and single-centre, the dehiscence confidence interval is extremely wide, and no association was found for local-anaesthesia dehiscence or postoperative bleeding.
