The wire
- 01In a national prospective multicenter cohort published Sept. 16 in Anaesthesia, pulmonary aspiration or regurgitation occurred in 1.41% of GLP-1 users versus 0.12% of non-users, an odds ratio of 11.39.
- 02Events most often occurred during emergence from anesthesia, and the study found variable practice on drug cessation, anesthesia technique and airway management across sites.
- 03Authors say prospective studies are needed to identify interventions that mitigate aspiration risk; the observational design cannot establish causation.
