Saudi cohort links semaglutide-dapagliflozin combination to lower heart failure risk

The wire
- 01A retrospective cohort of 539 adults with type 2 diabetes at King Abdulaziz Hospital, Al-Ahsa, compared dapagliflozin monotherapy with dapagliflozin plus once-weekly injectable semaglutide over six months.
- 02Combination therapy was associated with a lower relative risk of heart failure (RR 0.43, p=0.04), higher HDL and improved eGFR, despite weaker glycemic control than dapagliflozin alone.
- 03The myocardial infarction reduction (RR 0.61, p=0.13) was not significant and stroke risk was unchanged; the authors say the retrospective, non-randomized design precludes causal inference.
