Pooled GLP-1 trial analysis finds little covariate-driven treatment heterogeneity

The wire
- 01Researchers pooled SUSTAIN 6 (n=3,297), PIONEER 6 (n=3,183) and LEADER (n=9,340) to 13,670 type 2 diabetes patients and tested treatment effect heterogeneity on HbA1c, BMI and blood pressure endpoints.
- 02Baseline HbA1c ranked highest among candidate effect modifiers and kidney function next, but the authors conclude the average treatment effect is a reasonable summary for most patients.
- 03The analysis is exploratory and post hoc across trials of semaglutide and liraglutide versus placebo, so it does not identify prospectively actionable responder subgroups.
