Meta-analysis finds GLP-1 drugs cut apnea-hypopnea index by 10 events per hour

The wire
- 01Pooled data from six RCTs of liraglutide or tirzepatide reduced AHI by 9.99 events/hour, body weight by 9.68 kg, systolic BP by 4.77 mmHg and diastolic BP by 1.41 mmHg.
- 02Clinicians treating obesity-related OSA get pooled evidence on an endpoint beyond weight, with no increase in adverse events reported across the included trials.
- 03Heterogeneity was substantial (I2 of 87% for AHI and 98% for weight), and the authors say the drugs do not substitute for CPAP; oxygen desaturation index and minimum saturation did not improve.
