The wire
- 01Researchers induced premature ovarian failure with intraperitoneal cisplatin 2 mg/kg for seven days, then treated mice with the mitochondria-targeted peptide SS-31 at 10 mg/kg for three weeks.
- 02SS-31 treatment improved ovarian size and morphology, raised follicle counts, reduced oxidative stress and activated Nrf2/HO-1 signaling in ovarian tissue, per the Frontiers in Pharmacology report.
- 03This is a mouse model only; the authors call SS-31 a candidate for clinical management of premature ovarian failure, but no human data in this indication are presented.
