Semaglutide pilot links six-month therapy to shifts in eight microRNAs
None of the changes in 31 adults with obesity survived false discovery rate correction, the authors report in Obesity Facts.

The wire
- 01In a prospective observational pilot, 31 adults with obesity on 0.25 mg to 1.5 mg weekly semaglutide gave plasma samples at baseline and six months; eight miRNAs changed nominally significantly.
- 02The work probes a possible molecular mechanism behind GLP-1 receptor agonist effects, an area the authors say has no prior human data in obesity.
- 03No association held after FDR correction, the cohort is small and uncontrolled, and doses were submaximal, so the findings are hypothesis-generating only.
